What to expect from Britain’s new Prime Minister ?

On Wednesday 14th September, Institut Montaigne hosted an event online with Sophia Gaston, Director of the British Foreign Policy Group, Chris Giles, Economics Editor of the Financial Times and Anand Menon, Professor at King’s College London, for a discussion with Georgina Wright - Senior Fellow and Director of the European Program at Institut Montaigne.

On the 5th September, the Conservative party announced the new Prime Minister, Lizz Truss. Immediately faced with rising inflation, soaring energy costs, ongoing Brexit discussions and the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II, she has her work cut out for her. If she fails, the conservative party may lose the next election; due to take place in 2025, at the latest. During the session, our speakers discussed the capping of energy prices, changing foreign policy plans and what we might expect from this new Government, with Liz Truss at the helm.

This event brought together a group of experts and Members of Institut Montaigne.
