Eric Charbonnier

Education Analyst at the OECD

Eric Charbonnier holds a postgraduate degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Dauphine.

He has worked at the OECD since 1997 as an analyst in the Directorate for Education and Skills. Each year, this directorate publishes the Education at a Glance report, and every three years the results of the PISA study on 15-year-old students.

For several years, he has led the OECD's Indicator of Education Systems (INES), which provides data on the performance of education systems within the 36 OECD member countries, as well as a range of countries who collaborate with the OECD.

He is currently working on the development of new indicators in order to assess the quality of early childhood education and care systems. Convinced that "a statistic is often more reliable than a preconceived idea", he hosted a blog for Le Monde entitled "L'Éducation déchiffrée" (Education deciphered) from 2012 to 2019.
