Dr. Shahrbanou Tadjbakhsh

Researcher, University Lecturer and Consultant

Dr. Shahrbanou Tadjbakhsh has been teaching at Sciences Po (Institute of Political Studies) in Paris courses on Human Security (since 2004) and a course on Understanding and Responding to Violent Extremism (since 2018). She has also taught at Columbia University, Georgetown University and at universities in Tehran, Kabul, New Delhi, Pretoria, Moscow and Dushanbe. 

She is the author of A Rock Between Hard Places; Afghanistan in its Regional Security Complexes with Kristian P. Harpviken (2016), Editor of Rethinking the Liberal Peace: External Models and Local Alternatives (2011) and author with Anuradha Chenoy of Human Security: Concepts and Implications (2007).   

She has worked as a researcher at the Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO) and has led a joint research between Sciences Po and Kabul University on liberal peacebuilding in Afghanistan. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the first UNDP National Human Development Report for Afghanistan (2004). As a UN Consultant, Dr. Tadjbakhsh has worked with the governments of Central Asia in developing regional and national strategies for countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism. She contributed to the preparation of the Afghanistan National Action Plan for implementing Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, and was also part of a team that conducted an evaluation of the Reintegration Programme of the Taliban. She holds a Bachelor's Degree from Georgetown University  (1987) a Master's Degree (1991) and a Doctoral Degree (1994) from Columbia University.
