These past few days, all eyes were on President Macron’s Washington visit, in what was seen as a festive tribute to America’s oldest ally. But below the surface, repair work is needed. EU leaders are starting to express frustration with the US. Much of the EU-US friction is down to three letters: IRA. We make sense of the visit by placing it in the broader context of transatlantic ties. On the other side of the Atlantic, the European Commission approved a proposal for the adoption of an anti-coercion instrument, allowing the EU to better respond to coercive threats.
