Newsletter (EN) 27-12-2022
Institut Montaigne’s monthly newsletter

Before we head into 2023, here’s a wrap-up of content that most captivated us in a year that was all but mundane. 2022 was marked by political tumult, the resurgence of great-power rivalry, economic challenges and a war in Europe. Countries have had to manage the global fallout of Ukraine while dealing with a waning pandemic and a looming climate crisis. We take a look back at Russian motivations behind its attack and track the EU response to the war. We turn to France, where a presidential election was held this year and where the far-right managed to push its ideas into the mainstream. On series, we are pleased to share two with you: Ukraine Shifting the World Order, on the global order after the war in Ukraine, and Transatlantic Insights, where we examined how the US and Europe prepared for the midterms. We end with a spotlight on Asia. First, with our iconic quarterly publication China Trends. Then, with India and its climate cooperation with the EU prior to COP27. Finally, with China, and how its semiconductor industry relates to broader US-China military power plays. And before our big return next year, we wanted to share that our newsletter will switch to a monthly publication: a slower pace for more in-depth analyses. See you in 2023! Happy New Year!
