Welcome back to our weekly specials focusing on the midterms! Results are in: Republicans have won back control of the House of Representatives while Democrats keep the Senate, scraping a victory from an election that many expected to be a red wave of wins, but turned out to be more of a trickle. We walk you through some of the conclusions to draw, whether they relate to the Republican establishment, DeSantis’ growing buzz, governorships, or the future of American right-wing populism. We also invite you to check out the series we launched prior to the election, to look at how major issues mirror each other on both sides of the Atlantic, via a Franco-American lens. We turn to the health sector to examine ways in which health inequalities affect women and men differently. To remedy the gender gap observed, we suggest an approach to gender-based health inequalities with the integration of class dimensions. Finally, as COP27 ended on Sunday with many frustrations on the lack of ambition to phase out fossil fuels, we end with a proposal to reform the EU’s Emissions Trading Schemes to tackle the regressive nature of carbon pricing. Adjust your reading glasses and dig in. See you in 2 weeks!
