Philippe Aguignier has been Associate Researcher in Institut Montaigne’s Asia Program since September 2021.

Philippe Aguignier has over thirty years of experience in the banking industry, including nearly twenty-five years in Asia, in different areas such as international commercial banking, investment banking and private equity. In Asia, Dr. Aguignier has worked in Japan, in Hong Kong where he held several positions of regional responsibility, and in China, where he was Vice President and member of the board of directors of a local bank.

He currently teaches Chinese economics at France’s National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations (INALCO) and Sciences Po.

Philippe Aguignier is a graduate of France’s Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE, and holds a PhD in East Asian studies from the New Sorbonne University Paris III. His work and publications focus on local finance and regional disparities as well as on the evolution of the banking sector in China.
