What is a think tank, and what are think tanks for? People in almost all the major developed countries can answer this question. In the United Kingdom, in Germany, in Brussels, in the United States, even the general public is aware of these "ideas workshops" that draw up and disseminate proposals for public policy initiatives in various fields - education, health, diversity, competitiveness, etc... This is not yet really true of France. However, the analyses of the Institut Montaigne are increasingly providing material for discussion and its proposals regularly attract the interest of the public authorities.
In these circumstances, and because the ideas emanating from institutions whose names are well known have a greater chance of being taken into consideration, the Institut Montaigne has decided to make itself better known to those responsible for introducing change but also to public opinion at large through an original advertising campaign.
Highlighting the Institute's role as a source of constructive proposals, this campaign will feature a different idea each day for one month starting January 23 on the France 3, BFM TV and Paris Premire TV channels and in the "Le Monde" daily newspaper , as well as on the Institute's own website (www.institutmontaigne.org) and on the websites of the media concerned. The films and the advertisements, all of them one-off, are based on a very graphic presentation, combining humour and common sense.
In preparing this campaign, the Institut Montaigne has had the benefit of the advice of Guy Chauvel, Associate Member of the Institut Montaigne, and Eric de Rugy, founder of the NŽ Kid agency. The films were designed by Pascal Manry, directed by Eric Delmotte, specialist video designer, and produced by N¡7.
This campaign uses TV, the press and the Internet.
TV : each day from 23 January to 17 February a different film is shown on the France 3 channel, immediately before the 11 p.m. news bulletin, with repeats the following day on the BFM TV channel three times a day at 7:46 a.m., 8:44 p.m. and 10:44 p.m., from 24 January to 17 February. Ð with further repeats in the "best of" programme on Paris Premire eight times every Sunday between 12:50 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and between 7:30 p.m. and 8:20 p.m., from 27 January to 17 February.
Press : a specially adapted version of each film appears in the "DŽbats" page of the "Le Monde" newspaper (an advertisement taking up 1/12th of a page), from 25 January to 16 February.
Internet : each film is shown on lemonde.fr (under the heading "Politiques" and "Opinions") and on france2.fr and france3.fr (under the "Infos" heading), from 24 January to 17 February.
