Institut Montaigne is run exclusively through private contributions: over 150 companies of different sizes and sectors, each representing less than 1.5% of the € 4.2 million total budget.

A wide range of faithful companies have supported us historically, since the years 2000s. Alongside new members joining us every year, their trust is essential and precious to ensure Institut Montaigne’s quality and independence.

The value and benefits offered by the corporate membership provide an immediate return on investment through :

  • Powerful advocacy to policymakers and other stakeholders in France
  • Rigorous analyses shedding light on quantitative figures and benchmarking in a variety of policy fields
  • High-quality reports carried out by prominent business leaders, former and serving politicians and policy makers, academics, and civil society, to which corporate members may contribute
  • Participation in exceptional and exclusive events around distinguished speakers: French and European business and political leaders
  • Unique opportunities for networking and connecting with our senior fellows, advisors and affiliated experts for stimulating conversations on a wide range of topics

Institut Montaigne is able to work with its member companies thanks to a broad work program focusing on a wide range of subjects.

Each report or policy paper is the result of a reflection conducted by a group of people – a “taskforce” – that systematically includes member companies. Institut Montaigne is an independent body, which means that all of our work is produced on the basis of a transparent process: we do not take institutional positions on any policy issue, we promote original and pragmatic solutions, we systematically verify all the data that can be found publicly, we benchmark policies that are being introduced abroad, we express complex information in figures and we calculate the cost applied to all ideas that are introduced in the public debate. The range of subjects covered by Institut Montaigne covers all fields of public policy and its field of action is deployed at the national, European and international levels. We take scrupulous care to maintain the representation of a variety of perspectives around the table at each taskforce, to ensure the real confrontation of ideas.

Another way of working with our members is for them to participate in our “monitoring groups”, whose role is to reflect upon specific policy issues over time, particularly ones to do with health and energy, to allow Institut Montaigne to make decision-oriented selections of topics to be addressed by companies and the government.

We frequently run high-level events specially tailored for our members. Several times a month, we organize events in Paris that are open exclusively to our members, to which we invite as keynote speakers, either prominent political figures or CEOs of leading French companies, as well as pollsters and intellectuals.
