Maya Kandel

Historian, Associate Researcher at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3 (CREW)

Maya Kandel is an Associate Researcher at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3 (CREW). In 2021 and 2022, she was Senior Fellow and Director of Institut Montaigne’s United States Program. From 2017 to 2021, she was in charge of the United States and transatlantic relations at the Center for Analysis, Planning and Strategy (CAPS) of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. From 2011 to 2016, she directed the US program at IRSEM (Institut de Recherche Stratégique de l’École Militaire).

Maya has a PhD from Sciences Po Paris on the role of Congress and domestic factors in US foreign policy. She is also a graduate of Columbia University (SIPA) and Sciences Po Paris. Her latest book is Les États-Unis et le monde, de George Washington à Donald Trump (Éditions Perrin, 2018, in French only). She has also written The Climate Catastrophe with her father, astrogeophysicist Robert Kandel (Hachette, 2009).

Maya created the Froggy Bottom blog on US foreign policy. She has published many articles in general and academic publications and is frequently interviewed in the media. She has testified several times on the United States for the French parliamentary commissions.
